Welcome, thank you for checking out my website and lessons page. I enjoy teaching all levels of drum students, from beginner to pro. Some of the topics I teach include, basic techniques for playing the drum set and snare drum, getting a sound, grooves, fills and learning songs and exercises to develop independence and reading.
The styles I focus on are jazz , rock, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban as well as other world styles. I have been fortunate to perform with many different artists, this has shaped what and how I teach. I have had many on the job experiences from performing, recording and touring internationally. Many, many types of ‘gigs’ and shows ranging from tiny clubs to major festivals and theatres with all kinds of musicians, from Grammy award winners and nominees to students just starting their careers.
I have taught drums for the past thirty plus years, the last ten years I have been a guest artist and teacher at The University of Rhode Island, Wellesley College and the Berklee College of Music of which I am a graduate, class of 1993.. yikes!
If interested, I also have written four books which are intended to introduce rhythmic concepts that can be used by drummers or any musician who wants to expand his or her rhythmic repertoire for improvisation or composition. The books are entitled “Advanced Rhythmic Concepts for the Modern Drummer”, volumes 1-3. Spring 2021, I released my fourth book, Building Blocks for Drummers Vol. 1, which is now available on Amazon. I look forward to sharing what I have learned along the way with you.
If you’re unable to study with me in person, please check out my Patreon page which has lots of great education videos for drummers.
